Apple Crumble

Photobucket

Doesn't take long to make this dessert. You can prepared while you cook dinner or surf internet.
Some time I made the crumble prior and just sprinkle it over apple wedges, bake and violaa...
I just love this dessert, serve ala mode or just on its own. The amount of crumble depends of how shallow is your dish. Somehow you can freeze the remain crumble if there's left.

apple crumble

Apple crumble

Ingredients
800 gr granny smith apples
2 tbs fresh lemon juice
3 tbs sugar
Melted butter, to grease

crumble:

100 g plain flour
1 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
120g butter, chilled, cubed
80 g brown sugar
50 g rolled oats

Double cream or vanilla ice-cream, to serve

Method

  1. Combine the flour and 1 tsp of the cinnamon in a large bowl. Add the butter and use your fingertips to rub it into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse breadcrumbs. Stir in the brown sugar and oats, or just simply process in food processor if it's available.
  2. Preheat oven to 190°C. Brush a 6cm-deep, 1.25-litre (5-cup) ovenproof dish with the melted butter to grease.
  3. Quarter and core the apples. Slice the quarters into1.5cm-wide wedges, in saucepan simmer apple, lemon juice and sugar for about ten minute. Place the cooked apple in the greased dish. Sprinkle the crumble mixture evenly over the top to completely cover the apples.
  4. Place the dish on a baking tray and bake in preheated oven for 20 minutes or until the crumble topping is golden.Serve warm with the cream or ice-cream.
